dimensioning of mobile networks with special focus on reduction of energy consumption. This is a collaborative work with SmarTone Mobile
Communications Ltd, a leading mobile network operator in Hong Kong. The project's aim is to develop software tools that will provide mobile
network operators with means to optimize their network design in the way that reduces network operational cost, saves energy consumption and,
in turn, lowers cost to customers. This project will gain useful insights for developing the future energy-efficient 5G mobile network.

PhD/MSc Programmes:
The Department of Electronic Engineering (EE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is a dynamic department committed to providing an environment conducive for learning and conducting research. CityU has been ranked 20th according to ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of universities in 2016 for the subject area of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), which places us first in Hong Kong for EEE. We have 16 IEEE Fellows among our outstanding faculty. We are well-equipped with numerous state-of-the-art laboratories facilitating a variety of research and teaching activities; the establishment of the State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves in 2008 with the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China is a notable example.
We offer PhD studies in a wide range of research areas and welcome bright students from all around the world to join us via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) with a provision of a stipend at HK$20,000 (~US$2,600) per month and a university entrance scholarship worth HK$71,500 (~US$9,167). HKPFS applicants are also automatically considered for Regular Admission to our PhD programme. For applications to the HKPFS, 2017/18, please visit http://www.sgs.cityu.edu.hk/prospective/RPg/HKPhD
We also offer two taught Master’s programmes, the MSc in Electronic Information Engineering (EIE) and MSc in Multimedia Information Technology (MIT). The programmes’ internships and management courses provide high-quality training to nurture well-rounded professionals: professionals equipped with the analytical and communications skills expected of managerial positions across different industries.
