讲座题目:The role of MRI in differential diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases

报告简介 The development in diffusion magnetic resonance imaging led to new interests on the studies of neurodegenerative diseases. However, limitations existed due to their focus on white matter lesions and the hypothesis-driven selection of specific regions. The findings are often controversial because of significant overlap between groups. To obtain unbiased results with respect to the current pathophysiological model of Parkinson’s Disease, systematic investigations of the brain are required.

The presentation will discuss the measurement of diffusion by using MRI and examine the changes of the diffusion properties. The preliminary results showed that mean diffusivity as assessed by diffusion MRI were found to be significantly higher in patients of Parkinson Disease than in controls, and such differences extended beyond the basal ganglia. The anterior cingulate cortex was the site showing the most significant change between patients and controls. The improved diagnosis and prediction of the clinical outcome might ultimately increase the confidence of the neurologist during the therapeutic intervention.

主讲人简介:

Pr. Jiun-Jie Wang received his Ph.D. from University College London. He is currently a full professor in the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiological Sciences, Chang Gung University as well as Neuroscience Research Centre, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. He is the directors of the imaging core laboratories in Healthy Ageing Research Center and Institute of Radiological Research, ChangGung Unversity/ChangGung memorial hospital. He is also a member in the University Council.
