Title: Resistive Switching Random Access Memory Devices Using g-APTES as Insulator Layer

Speaker: Prof. You-Lin WuDepartment of Electrical Engineering, National Chi Nan University, Taiwan

Host: Dr. Tianxun Gong

Abstract:

Gamma-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (g-APTES) is an organosilane material commonly used for biomedical sensing. Sensors with a g-APTES surface layer have been reported for use in pH, DNA, and cell detection. However, no application of g-APTES on resistive switching random access memory (RRAM) devices has yet been reported. In this talk, we will present the resistive switching characteristics of RRAM device using g-APTES as the insulator layer. The resistive switching of the g-APTES layer embedded with ZnO nanoparticles will also be discussed. A unipolar resistive switching characteristic is found when the g-APTES is employed as an insulator layer in a device with a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structure. The stability and reliability of the resistive switching characteristics of the device can be improved after adding zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles at the expense of reducing the ratio of the resistance of a high-resistance state (RHRS) to the resistance of a low-resistance state (RLRS).

You-Lin Wu received the M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree all in electrical engineering in 1984, and 1994, respectively. From 1984 to 1991, he was a Lecturer with the Department of Electronic Engineering, Hsinpu Junior College of Technology, Taipei, where he was the Head of the Department from 1989 to 1991. In 1995, he was the Manager of the Thin Film Department, Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation, where he was in charge of the development and fabrication of16MDRAM. Since 1998, he has been a member of the faculty in the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Chi Nan University, Taiwan, and was henceforth the Chairman of the department for three years. He is currently a Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Adjunct Professor with the Department of Applied Materials and Optoelectronic Engineering, National Chi Nan University. Prof. Wu also served as the Library Director from 2006 to 2011, Director of Computer and Network Center from 2006 to 2008, and Dean of Academic Affairs from 2011 ~ 2012, in National Chi Nan University. Since 2014 he has been appointed as Distinguished Professor of the Institute of Science and Technology, National Chi Nan University, Taiwan. His research interests focus on nanoscale characterization of electronic devices using atomic force microscopy and development of ultra-sensitive biomedical solid-state sensors.
