讲座题目： Beyond High Efficiency Video Coding – An Overview

报告简介：

This talk presents advancements on the state of the art High Efficiency Video Coding Standard (HEVC), in the context of the Joint Exploration Model (JEM). This model is still under development from the ITU and promises significant improvements in the Rate Distortion Performance of HEVC through an assortment of coding tools. These tools are presented in algorithmic detail and comparisons between HEVC and JEM are drawn.

主讲人简介：Dr Grecos (Graikos in Greek language) is currently serving as a tenured full time Professor and Chair ofthe Computer Science Department of Central Washington University (CWU) in US. He assumed this post in August 2016.

From August 2015 to August 2016, Dr Grecos wasthe Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology and Full Professor of Visual Communication Standards at Sohar University, Oman. Prior to that he was employed in the United Kingdom as a Full Professor ofVisual Communications Standardsand Head of School of Computing in the University of the West of Scotland, Glasgow from September 2009 to September 2014. During that period, he was the Faculty lead for Research and Enterprise in the Faculty of Science and Technology and chaired the Faculty Forum on Research and Enterprise. Dr Grecos was the Vice-Chair of the University Knowledge and Research Exchange Board in the University of the West of Scotland from February 2011 to September 2014.Prior to that Dr Grecos worked as a full time academic for more than 8 years in the UK Universities of Central Lancashire as Reader(tenured Associate Professor US equivalent) and Loughborough as Senior Lecturer and Lecturer (tenured Associate Professor and Assistant Professor US equivalent).

Dr Grecos holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (Systems Software Option) from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, a Master’s of Science degree in Human Computer Interaction from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland (UK).  His PhD degree in Image and Video Coding algorithms for standards is from Glamorgan University (later renamed University of South Wales in Wales,UK). For his contributions in his research field, Dr Grecoswas elevated to a Senior Member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) in 2006.Dr Grecos was also elevated to a Senior Member of the International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE) in 2008 for specific achievements in digital image processing.
