Research on Planar Phased Array Antenna With wide – angle scanning performance

Brief IntroductionA Planar Phased Array Antenna in which the radiation pattern can be reinforced in a particular direction and suppressed in undesired directions. This can be achieved by varying the phase of the radiating elements electronically, thereby producing a pattern electronically with high effectiveness managing to get narrow beam widths and minimum side lobe levels. Phased array antennas are widely used in pattern adjusting communication systems and target tracking or direction finding radar systems because they can change the main beam of the radiation pattern to the desired direction just by changing the phase shift or controlling the time delay of feeding signals. Beam scanning of the phased array is much faster than that of mechanical scanning antenna, and the high-cost position system is unnecessary in the phased array antenna system.

However, the phase array structures with wide band, high gain and vast scanning angle have been less investigated in latest collected literature. Consequently, antenna gains needs to be improved to compensate the loss without consuming any more power and cost. For this purpose, the phased array antenna with high scanning range and wideband capability in the desired direction can be excellent choice for different commercial and military applications including radar, emerging biomedical and satellite communications which can be covered by phased arrays.

Our research is focused to design phased array antenna with wide-angle for high gain and -3dB fluctuation scanning performance. In this study, the novel approach will be introduced to design model of phased (array antenna) based on wide-angle structure to improve scanning performance and obtain high gain at different frequencies that will be quite different from previous several published contribution. The most significant feature of this proposed designed model by using different techniques to achieve the best results for wide-angle scanning performance.
